Take a deep breath. Is there not more oxygen left for your next breath? And the next one? Pluck a leaf off of a tree. Will there not be another leaf to grow in it’s place? Watch the waters of the ocean retreat from the sandy beach. Won’t there be another wave return to the beach in seconds?
Take advantage of God’s grace. Will He ever stop giving it?
The grace of God is a never-ending, faithfully-giving, lavish-gifting, relentless love. It is the rhythm of love that never ceases. For every ounce we extract there are infinite gallons more. Stored up for you and I. Ready to release into our broken, tumbledown, creaky, sneaky, smelly, guilty, burdened life. Grace that is always available. Grace that is always sufficient.
“He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32)
God’s grace doesn’t work with our human thinking. Free? Unconditional? No way. There’s a catch right? There’s some fine print, isn’t there? Nope. Grace can’t be tainted by our earthliness. It’s not of this world. And at the end of the day, the last drop of addiction, the darkness at the end of the tunnel, the discouragement of self-reliance there’s grace. It’s there because it’s above, outside, exempt from your mess. And yet, it chooses to involve itself with your mess. When it seeks you it knows the risk it takes in associating with your rap-sheet. And yet it is willing to be “taken advantage of”.
Grace is fueled by the work of Jesus. It is powered by His saving work on the cross. It is channelled through His Holy character. The proof of the power of God’s grace is made known through the sacrificial choice of Jesus to die for you and me. To pay our sin-debt and wipe our court case off the eternal docket. Grace doesn’t play down the crime or sweep our failures under the rug. It confronted them with full disclosure and chose to forgiven instead of condemn.
You can’t fall from God’s grace. His grip is true. No matter how frequent you and I cycle through sin God’s grace is set to a more dependable rhythm. Grace for your every need. Grace to forgive. To heal. To strengthen. For peace. For rest. Forever.
It’s yours.
Let it transform you.
