Every other advertisement I see promises me something; better health, happiness, more friends, more money. With each product comes the enticing and yet fickle promise. As good as that weight-loss and diet program is it won’t keep me fit and alive forever. As satisfying as that product might be it will never completely satisfy me. And, as amazing as that person is they will fail me at some point.

In a culture of broken promises from products or people, it’s easy to become skeptical. Perhaps you have lost a bit of hope and faith in ever experiencing a full life. Let me point you in the right direction finally. At first, it might seem simple but don’t get distracted by that. Focus on the possibility of what you’ve been looking for all along.

The instruction of the Lord is perfect,
renewing one’s life;
the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy,
making the inexperienced wise.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
making the heart glad;
the command of the Lord is radiant,
making the eyes light up.” – Psalm 19:7-8

bibleWhen is the last time you picked up a Bible and read God’s word? Maybe God hasn’t been a priority for you or even an option. It could be that you have a problem believing that the Bible is true. Well, have you really given God the opportunity to prove himself?

1 – God promises that His words are perfect and that they will Renew Your Life. I don’t know about you but words are important to me and it’s hard to find words in this world that truly renew me. Only the Bible has the power to renew my soul every time I read it. There’s no other book like that.

2 – God promises that His word Gives You Wisdom. Knowing the right thing to do in every situation is impossible for me without God’s word. Only in the truth of the Bible can I find the confidence to move and act with wisdom. God’s wisdom is timeless and effective.

3 – God promises that His words will Bring You Joy. Joy is different than happiness. While happiness is dependent on circumstances, joy transcends circumstances. Even in the most difficult times we can have peace and hope through Joy. Happiness needs pleasing circumstances to uphold its feeling. Joy needs only the person of Jesus to maintain belief.

“In addition, Your servant is warned by them;
there is great reward in keeping them.” – Psalm 19:11

4 – In addition, God promises that His word will Keep You From Danger. I hate accidentally running into things because of my clumsiness and I absolutely hate it when I do something stupid on purpose. I need God’s word to teach me how not to be a fool and how to avoid falling into danger.

5 – Lastly, living by God’s word will Bring You Great Reward! I dream about finding buried treasure at least once a month! I love coupons, bonuses, and prizes. I love rewards. Who doesn’t? What makes the reward of reading God’s word so great is that it is eternal. All the trophies and prizes I’ve won over the years will break and fall apart someday but the life that comes from reading God’s word will enrich you forever!words-of-god

Now, I wonder if you’ll give the Bible another chance. Do you see things a little differently now? Are you willing to trust that these promises are worth testing?

Put God’s promises to the test. Start reading the Bible every day for a few minutes. Think about what you read. Study it. Let it transform you and teach you. I now it sounds a bit bold to say this but, I guarantee it will be worth it.

Just so you know that this isn’t theory to me. You can be assured that I am been reading through the bible too. I find that the YouVersion Bible App reading plans are awesome at keeping me reminded and on track. Through reading the Bible over and over the last 20 years I have grown in courage, peace, grace, love, knowledge, wisdom, a fullness of life and so much more!

“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to all their body.” – Proverbs 4:20-22
